Swedish massage is the most common type of massage. If you have never received a massage before then Swedish massage is perfect for you. This type of massage is intended to relax your body mentally and physically, soothe your muscles and improve your circulation. In Swedish massage, oils are used on the skin. Various techniques are then used to warm up the muscle tissue before working superficially and deeply into the tissue layers which helps to alleviate tension in the muscles and break up ‘knots’.
There are several main techniques used in Swedish massage and these are: strokes, kneading and friction, tapping, percussions, vibrations and effleurage. All of the techniques used are designed to relax tired and aching muscles whilst encouraging the flow of blood and lymph and enhancing skin tone.
The way you feel can have a direct impact on your body physically. By promoting relaxation and alleviating stress, both the body and mind can benefit from a massage treatment. Massage can be used to relax muscles after physical exertion or to warm and loosen them in preparation for exercise. Massage is also a great for relieving mental and emotional stress. A treatment leaves you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Swedish massage is suggested in a regular program for stress management.
Most treatments last for the duration of 60 minutes; however a 90 minute massage allows more time to work the muscle tissue and achieve results.
As with all hands-on holistic therapies, Swedish massage may not be suitable for everyone and certain medical conditions may prevent the use of this treatment, or may require your GP’s consent. A full consultation will be carried out before your first treatment which enables us to ensure that Swedish massage is right for you.
